David Gilmour was born on March 6, 1946, in Cambridge, England. As a young man, he started playing guitar at the age of 13 and soon joined various bands. In the mid-1960s, he joined the band Pink Floyd as a guitarist and quickly became a defining member of the band. In addition to his guitar playing, Gilmour was also known for his vocal ability and songwriting. Some of his most notable contributions to Pink Floyd include the songs "Comfortably Numb," "Wish You Were Here," and "Shine On You Crazy Diamond." In later years, Gilmour embarked on a successful solo career and continues to perform and record new music to this day.
